The Art Of The Soak

From a design perspective, the existing ensuite presented several challenges: while it included a tub, it lacked the accessibility needed to comfortably support aging parents who visited often. The space was further limited by a cramped closet, dated tile, and a harsh, outdated color palette that diminished both function and comfort.

We thoughtfully reconfigured the space, gutting the space to improve flow and relocating the closet to the adjoining bedroom to maximize usability. All fixtures and materials were thoughtfully updated, with particular attention paid to ease of movement and long-term flexibility. In response to the clients’ caregiving needs, the design incorporates accessibility-minded features such as a handheld shower and a wide, shallow soaking tub that allows for safer, easier entry and exit.

The result is a bath that performs beautifully for aging parents today, while also serving as a serene retreat—inviting long, restorative soaks for years to come.
